I have the opportunity to work on hundreds of home theaters every year. During these jobs certain products standout in their class. The Classe SSP-800 is one of those products. The quality and flexibility of this product for surround and stereo reproduction is unmatched to anything I have come across. At $8000 MSRP this unit is not inexpensive, but if you are looking for the best in home theater I would consider this unit.

One thing to note is this unit does not process video. This is generally a good thing in an audio processor. Most displays today have better video processing than external devices. Leaving this out eliminates another source of picture problems. It also lets Classe focus on what they do best which is sound.

This unit also does not have an automatic setup system. This is another good idea as most of these systems give the impression of optimizing your sound while in reality leaving many stones unturned in the process of optimizing your system. A manual approach is still the best when it comes to setting up your surround system.

This unit is shown in several of my example audiophile theaters for these reasons.
